On the evening of 25th Sept. 1989. At the meeting Richard Harbord left,immediatly after the vote to sell the planning permission, and went to an adjacent room and telephoned John Beckwith. As pre-arranged we had all stayed in Knightsbridge waiting for the call. "John (Beckwith ) they've agreed--- Yes, £2,500,000 " John Beckwith put the phone down and opened bottles of champagne. We all joined hands and danced round and round singing ring-a-ring-a-roses,with different words I can't remember but they celebrated conning Richmond. We stayed late until all the champagne was gone. Next day Richard Harbord confirmed the telephone conversation in writing which must be in the Council records, starting "Dear John.....".There just had to be other payments we weren't told about as the general opinion was we'd have willingly paid up to £6 million.
