These notes, if true and accurate (and is the J Watley who posted them the same John Watley who was Richard Harbord's right hand man for many years?) prove that actuallly the Council did nothing wrong.

The story? Councillors got strong advice that they (the Council) were likely to lose a Planning Inquiry (note spelling by the way). It is noted that there are major difficulties in getting a pool/ice rink complex on the Old Deer Park (hence references to DOT and Professor Maclean). It is noted that LET were being slippery (I could use another word like 'l*ing' but that would be wrong without further proof). LET was clearly going to close the Ice Rink. It is agreed to get as much as much money out of LET/Beckwith Brothers as possible to use on leisure and recreation facilities in the Borough.

This is what was done. That's the history. To mix metaphors the smoking gun proves to be damp squib.

No doubt the conspiracy theorists on this board will have a field day, but at least some of us can put this into context.

And sadly if I were to use my real name, the above comments would just be dismissed out of hand by a number of the normally vitriolic contributors that use this forum. All I will say is that I was not at this meeting.
