Proof is very much a weasel word as there is no such thing as an absolute truth, and therefore it imports objectivity into a subjective world: that of belief.

There is no proof that any one of the people involved in posting messages to this web site is not secretly working for Al Qaida. It just cannot be proven "beyond all doubt". And yet if I were to make such a suggestion I would rightly be ridiculed.

And yet with no more evidence than I have to support the possibility referred to in the last paragraph, posters to this site regularly accuse councillors and officers of a variety of things ranging from failing to declare interests to serious corruption.

Whatever you may think, even though Richard Meacock has wound up some of my colleages over the years by the way in which he has behaved and the things that he has said, it beggars belief that any of them should wish to bolster his case by causing his windows to be broken.

Before reaching this conclusion, I would ask whether or not Mr Meacock has annoyed anyone more likely to engage the services of people with "Israeli army machine guns".

I have no idea who will end up running the council after May; that's for others to decide. But you can't vote for "No overall control" unless the electoral system is changed, which would result in it naturally. When you and others cast their vote they will have to determine which candidates offer the best chance of the best outcome. People who don't want the Lib Dems back will be faced with quite a problem.

I am always happy to hear criticism of the way in which Develoment Control meetings are chaired. The main problem is ensuring that speakers keep to planning issues, and do not heckle others. The right of address is very clearly there to help us decide on applications and is not a "Speakers' Corner". If people do off on tangents then they are pulled back. It can sometimes be hard to do that without being forceful.

But why not come and beam at us?
