There seems to be a lot of can't read, won't read on this site. I have not slurred school governors; I simply said that they were not paid.

The Tories have a fair allocation of governors. They just are not interested. I chair the governors at Orleans Park, and there are two Conservative nominees. Neither are councillors, both play a proper part in the governing body.

When the Conservatives were challenged over this at the beginning of this council session, they said they were much too busy to be councillors and deal with the paperwork and also be governors.

We've cut down on the paperwork, but some of the Tories won't use their computers (which means they generate mini paper mountains); and we've cut down on committees (and they've gone one further in 3 cases by not belonging to any of them). But still it's too much bother to be a school governor.

They then do all within their power to undermine the success of the school system by knocking the results. My Orleans Park came in for heavy criticism as some of the classrooms are too small and the building needs various repairs (even though substantial works have been done to it). If they had any interest in schools they would realise that those parts of the school needing attention were designed and constructed towards the end of the Conservative reign in this borough. Not a word of congratulation has issued forth from them to the teachers and pupils of our schools over their excellent GCSE results this year. For them, Education is only any use when it can be used as a weapon.
