LEA School Governors are not paid either. And yet many people are happy to give up their time to a good cause. Sadly only one of our Conservative opposition councillors seems bothered enough to do this.

There are numerous other public bodies and NGOs which would not work without volunteers, and it is offensive to insinuate that their efforts are not appreciated.

The level of the allowance played no part in my decision to stand as a councillor in 1994 and 1998, and will play no part in the decision I make as to whether I stand again next year.
