Thank you for this RH. Interesting that the substantial majority for a leader and cabinet came from the 'partner organisations'. A favoured tactic of our ruling administration of fiddling the figures or ensuring they get the result they desire. One or two individuals carry 'weight' because they are speaking (apparently)for the whole group. Remember that 'partner' organisations are a euphemism for those that receive funding from the council, therefore it is in their interests to be compliant with their paymasters wishes.
Looking at the individual vote, what percentage of the electorate does 1,231 represent? The combined mayor option vote is 40.7% - a 'significant minority' that entitles a demand for a referendum.
It appears to me that the 'problem' element exists in the small cabinet set up, who are making the decisions. The remaining Lib Dem councillors ('attending to their communities') have been gagged, so not much chance of a testing overview and scrutiny there.
As for more transparency, where is the evidence of that? Yes, the planning meeting minutes are on their website, which frequently goes offline at weekends, when most people want to access such information. 6 weeks on and the School Organisation Committee minutes still do not seem to exist! |
