How silly. The requirements which apply to Solicitors acting for a client to verify certain things to prevent money-laundering only apply when a person is acting as a solicitor. Obvious, or what?

In fact the money-laundering requirements for Solicitors are quite strict and my comment about them was a gross simplification as the Seller's Solicitor is not bound to take steps to verify the bona fides of a Buyer who is represented as otherwise his or task would be impossible. The completion money would normally be sent by the Buyer's Solicitor in any event.

If you have any serious proof (apart from vacuous unsupported allegations) that the council has in fact sold land to persons or corporations which have used criminally obtained money to purchase that land, then you should not just be sitting there putting postings on this site. You should be reporting those facts and disclosing those proofs to the Fraud Squad.

But because no such proof has been adduced, and the facts which are available do not support any such contention, I am not prepared to waste my time further on this matter now. Please advise me if the situation changes.
