Fresher can take comfort. Every word that I write on this site can be proved unless I specifically say that I am reporting a rumour or gossip. Knowing Lord Razzall's and Sir David Williams tendency to get solicitors acting on their behalf to issue threatening letters, I would not be such an idiot as to make statements under my own name which could not be proved.

Razzall's non-declaration of his interEst in CALA and his excuse are documented and some, if not all of it, was reported at the time in the local press.

CALA was a major property company with a capitalisation in the order of £100 million.

British and Commonwealth's involvement with Abaco was widely reported in the financial press, by Extel and Reuters and appeared in the accounts of both companies.

Gunn's and the Beckwith brother's involvement with the very successful Riverside Rackets Club is, also, a matter of record.

Incidentally, within a week or so of B & C's support for Abaco being announced, it was also announced by Cllr. Razzall, in his capacity as the borough's Chairman of the Pollicy and Resources Committee that, the Council had listened to Barnes residents and decided not to go ahead with their plans to allow a developer to build a leisure centre on the Barn Elms site.

Nobody has suggessted that this alternative leisure centre with its tennis, squass and swimming might have competed successfully for membership against Riverside Rackets Club which was being developped across the river at about the same time.
