This is the second near to these schools in the last year. But more importantly, if parents should have been consulted here then it follows that they should be asked in every case where a crossing (or something more significant) is within <insert your preferred distance> of a school.
Given that my daughter, who is 4 walks, 1.2km to school every morning, I would have thought that 1km would be the minimum distance to give effect to this batty idea. There can be very few crossings or other junction improvements which are not 1km from a school. The same logic applies to private schools as well, and why not to nurseries, and pubs, whose customers should go on foot.
