The local schools in question are respectively 420, 600 and 650 metres away from the junction.
There are a total of nearly 2,000 children at the three schools - probably over 1,000 sets of parents. They would all have to be traced, up to date addresses found for them, Data Protection Act requirements probably ignored, as council departments can only use data for certain purposes, letters would have to be sent to all, as presumably even parents living the other way might use the crossing, and a storm of outrage would follow from people at the waste of money, probably led by yourself.
