Pain is a very individual thing, so no one can tell you specifically if you will have more or less discomfort if only a portion of the sesamoid were removed.
General speaking, sesamoidectomies are not among the more painful surgeries. But it would be my opinion that it would not be worth the trouble to preserve a portion of such a small bone as a sesamoid of the foot, as it would also be problematic as to the determination of which portion and how much of the sesamoid needs removal.
Patients generally do well after a sesamoidectomy, and frankly I cannot recall anyone who complained bitterly post-operatively or even ever missed having the bone. But, also considering the fact that you don't actually have a confirmed diagnosis anyhow, why quibble over millimeters of bone? |
