I have similar story as Emma's. I have seen two Drs & agreed I needed lapidus bunionectomy. I have flexible flat feet with bunions measuring 12-13 degrees. The older dr had said that I will be in cast for two months, while the other said I would not be in cast? Having read many orthopedic websites,I have come realize that the older dr may be a more skilled dr. At this point I am confused as to whether I would be in cast? whether I can do both feet at the same time? whether it really take 4 weeks before I can walk on my feet? I am not very comfortable with the older dr as he is really against surgery - he'd wanted me to try orthodics first but I am having more & more walking - mostly heel pain & one side of my hip. I also wanted to know if I should be looking for an "orthopaedic surgeon" or a podiatrist? for my surgery? Which ones would have more chances of operaing on bunons? As soon as I hear from you, i would liek to find another dr for another opinion...I am so confused!
