Laura,

This could be Peroneal tendonitis. This a tendon is the area that you are describing. There will be pain where the tendon inserts into the 5th metatarsal bone. Pain with tilting the foot toward the outside. May need an MRI. This type of compensation is typical with any type of plantar fascia release. Treatment consists of physical therapy, NSAID, orthosis, casting, possible local steriod injection.First get an MRI and or ultrasound of the area of pain
