Hello dlbdpm
Thank you very much for responding to my posting.
May I ask you please, to explain how a 'steel shank' 'would eliminate the need for an orthotic?'
Making a general observation about orthotics: As I understand it, many people have feet that 'over-pronate' to some extent making it difficult to find comfortable footwear from retailers. I wonder if orthotics are properly intended for people with real 'medical' difficulties with their feet, e.g. they can hardly stand or walk. I would suggest that orthotics are being 'overprescribed' by outdoor specialist retailers and podiatricians, as they are probably not designed, or meant, to enable someone with over-pronating feet to wear boots, etc,(in their size) with more comfort.
I had a look at Red Wing's website, and they provided a list of stockists in the UK. Though, I don't recall anybody mentioning this manufacturer to me before. I suspect that they may only be selling a range of casual shoes in the UK, but I'll check it out further.
