Hello
This question is from England. I'll try to be brief! I'm about 6'2" tall, 52 years old, and normally wear a size 11 shoe. I've always had a problem with finding shoes that are wide enough for my feet, but this difficulty became particularly apparent when I decided to take up hiking/rambling in recent years. I found that the 'Brasher Boot' was a perfect fit - due to its very soft (and thin) leather. Unfortunately, they have stopped making this style. I started looking around the specialist outdoor retailers, here in London, and tried most brands and styles, Scarpa, Meindl, etc. But all produced different forms of discomfort: compression: numb feet; soreness: against outer edge of foot, or compression on top of foot: cut-off blood supply. I purchased an insole called 'Superfeet' (£32) which moulds to the sole's outline but, it only took-up more space in the boot...back to the above! I went to a 'State Registered' Chiropodist and Podiatrist who said I DO NOT have overlarge feet, adding that, my feet 'pronate'(they'd all said that!. He prescribed an orthotic (from Pegasus Orthoses) and took a mould of my feet(£240), assuring me that it would solve my problems. However, I now find that my heels sit higher in the boot - in a leather pair I had had stretched several times! - but otherwise there is no apparent benefit; and that although the foot position might(?) be better overall the orthotic has changed nothing, as far as getting boots that fit are concerned! Disappointed! Any comments from the professionals please. Thank you. |
