In my book Richard Meacock is a hero. He has fought consistently against Richmond Council's desecration of this borough and it has been Richard's voice virtually alone which has been shouting this. Now the "Honours for Loans" scandal has come to light and made public knowledge of what Richard has been saying all this time. The agreement over the ice rink was that 22 million pounds were supposed to be paid by the developer of the Ice Rink site for the building of Richmond's new ice rink. But having agreed this the Lib Dem council then settled for just 2m for borough leisure. So what happened to the missing 20m pounds? Well it was dealt with by one Tim Razzall who was the Richmond Councillor in charge of the negotiations. The borough never saw the £20 million, but at the same time the Lib Dem party gained some substantial funding, Tim Razzall became Lord Razzall and financial guru for the Lib Dem Party. There should be an inquiry into Lib Dem party funding too, where does it get its money?
Richard has never let this go and he is absolutely right. The council have demonised him, hurled abuse at him, they have threatened him in every way they possibly can. Even in this forum, which he pays for, he is attacked and insulted regularly. There has been intimidation by thugs, threating him with court action, using the local newspapers to besmirch him. There is even court action currently threatened by the CEO over business rates. Because Richard has always been perfectly focussed on this Ice Rink issue, and he himself was a very successful businessman so he knows the ropes, and they have tried to silence him for more than 15 years without success.
The Virgin Island Company Fredic which bought Hampton Court House from the council at a huge discount, and was apparently dissolved last year, has now just received planning permission from Richmond Council to keep caravans on the site. Still it is not public knowledge who the directors and shareholders of Fredic are (or were). How can it exist if it was dissolved?
There must now be an investigation into the funding of the Lib Dem party too!
