Have had the pleasure of reading through the list of candidates offering themselves to the electors of the borough on 4 May.

I couldn't help noticing that the Labour Party was a bit underepresented. In a number of wards there's just one Labour Party candidate and in one of them none at all.

Should I bother about it? Well, maybe not, but if we are trying to get people to engage with the political process then the party they support should be available for them to vote for.

It may well be the case that Labour has little chance of winning any seats at all, and this failure to show is a reflection of that, but I hope its supporters might start to try to get the message through that if you had proportional representation in borough elections you might get more people voting and a wider variety of elected representatives.
