Interesting meeting last night. Impressive victorian architecture Town Hall, well preserved. It was televised and the full report of this will be on their website next week. Ken Livingstone is strongly in favour of elected mayors for our London Borough's - says it has to be good to take some of the power (not a lot admittedly) from central government bureaucrats.

The main point to flag up is that Ken announced he is proposing to introduce planning legislation that compels 50% affordable housing to be built on all new development (there will be exemptions reducing to 33%). You heard it first here on Watchdog Forum! This was a big issue talked about a lot. He said that it was extremely variable among authorites on current ratios. Elizabeth Howlett, conservative GLA member for Merton and Wandsworth said that their current ratio is one in three of all new housing is 'affordable'. What is it currently in Richmond?

Finally, 19 out of 25 GLA members were there and it was disappointing to note that Tony Arbour, Chair of the Planning Advisory Committee and member for the South West area, was one of the absentees. It did cause me to think that overall, he is not doing a very effective job for the conservative opposition in Richmond.
