From the front page of today's R&T Times we read: - 'A big tax hike or more cuts - the choice is yours'. We are to be presented with the wonderful choice of increases ranging between 7% - 20%. Anything less than 11% means cuts in social service provision.

Look to the left and we read: 'Children and the elderly in Richmnd Upon Thames have received some of the worst provision in England over the past three years, the government's health secretary announced this week. During the speech Richmond Upon Thames was names and shamed as among 14 worst performing authorites in the country.'

Look to the bottom and we read: 'Outcry over charge for wheelie bins. Elderly and disabled residents too frail to carry standard rubbish bins to the front of their homes must pay more than £27 if they want a wheelie bin from Richmond Upon Thames Council.

Surely the Lib Dems must realise the game is nearly up and fewer and fewer will believe their protestations of being hard done by. As the saying goes, you can fool all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but not most of the people ALL of the time.

Cllr Michael Gold makes some good points in his letter on page eight and note his point of it just needs the Lib Dems tolose 7 or 8 seats to lose overall control.

Incidentally, I don't mind paying more money if it can genuinely improve services for all, especially the more vulnerable but I do object to it being frittered away and still seeing that many assets are also being sold off to none of our benefit. I can only conclude that our present administration is in an appalling financial mess. I just hope they don't get away with doing too much damage in desperation, before next May.
