I am 29 and have had pronated arches and back pain all my life. Various podiatrists have given me orthotics of varying shape and height. What I have found is by raising the arch the calf muscles tighten and my pelvis tilts back which in turn pulls on my upper back and neck muscles which causes pain and also nerve pain down my arm. No podiatrist could see this connection as they deal with the hip down and not the back, but there is a defenite link between shoes and back position. I found stretching the archilles muscle releases this tightness but only for a short time. Is this a common problem with orthotics? If I had known this simple stretch could have helped me I would have been pain free a lot earlier. |
