My daughter is now 12. At about 7 yrs of age, we noticed her favoring her right foot. Three doctors later and they told us it is Server's Disease.
Since then we have tried rest, ice, heel lifts, shoe inserts, stretching, no running, no playing, no gym, pain management techniques, stretching, physical therapy, rest, don joy walking boot, stretching, mortin, tylenol, etc. She spends at least one week out of every six in the walking boot which is the only thing that while not solving it - gives her some relief. We have now been in PT for 5 weeks and she had progressed to using a stair machine and treadmill. Unfortunately a flair up from a class trip has her at what I think have been her highest pain levels.
To keep her active we have kept her on a competitive swim team and practices through the pain 4 times a week. She also competes in archery. The constant discomfort has caused her to lose excitement for both although she tries.
Her personality is changing at 12! She loves school but her mind is on the pain of walking from class to class rather than who like who at the lunch table. The chronic pain is part of her life so much that it is changing who she is. We are in PT and they are talking about medication now. Elavil! She is 12. Any other experience with this level of pain with Sever's Disease. I've talked to others that say it hurts but not like this. Anyone know of a a really really good specialist in Server's Disease, Ideas, suggestions, experience? |
