Although I think that when you mentioned wire fixation, the doctor you were quoting was talking about using K-Wires, twisted wire sutures, placed through drill holes in the bones is a common methods of approximating an osteotomy site prior to definitive fixation with such as K-wires. The wire sutures are useful in producing additional compression of the site.

But as I mentioned previously in responding to your bottom-line question, the choice of doctor should not be made on the type of fixation to be used. If the surgeon is first properly vetted through credentials and experience, he/she should be left to select the fixation method most appropriate and effective in his/her hands. Although the patient has the right to make it his/her call, it is really neither in his/her purview nor perhaps best interests. Select your surgeon wisely, and leave it up to him/her.
