No foot specialist that I know uses wire to fixate an osteotomy. Screw and or pin is the typical methods of fixation. The reason that k-wire maybe is used is that it is very easy to remove without a 2nd operation. Screws may need a 2nd operation in some cases down the road. The 2nd operation usually is very easy and the patient is back in shoes within days. The wire fixation is very strange to use period.
