Thank you for your response. In answer to your questions, I have full range of motion of my big toe with no pain or stiffness. I do have some pain on top of the base of the big toe; however, if I move the tendon over and massage it for a few minutes, the pain decreases. Does this sound like bursitis? I asked the dr if the pain could be tendonitis and he said no because I still have strength in my toes. Your opinion? Thank you!! :)

It would be rather presumptuous of me to make a definitive diagnosis simply on the basis of the little of what I know about your case. But clearly, bursitis would be among that which should be considered. The real question is, "What could be the underlying cause, and what might be done to permanently resolve it?" My advice is that you NOT go from doctor to doctor until you find one willing to operate on you. You'll find more than a few who will be more than willing to place you on their operating table. This may well be a situation which can be adequately resolved by conservative measures.
