dr.toe,
pmh refers to past medical history and pe refers to physical exam.
xrays frequently are a lagging factor especially with involvement of infection.a more accurate diagnostic tool is to probe with sterile instrument or cotton tipped applicator from culture and sensitivity tube.direct probing to bone is sine quo non for om(osteomyelitis).hospitalization is then mandatory with appropriate parenteral abx,sx,wound care,vascular/infx disease/im consults when necessary.
recurrent infx does not sound like an inflammatory/musculoskeletal presentation.this patient needs further work-up
by the way...I meant no disrespect.I thought the 'dr.toe' was a come on.
should you have any further questions and I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.I apologize for any sarcasm.
