I've had bunions on both of my feet ever since I was a child. Over the past few years, the pain and discomfort has increased significantly, and so recently I consulted two podiatrists regarding surgery. Each agreed this was necessary, and both suggested I have surgery on each bunion separately, with a few months in between. Though I agreed with their reasoning, I wasn't impressed by or comfortable with either doctor --neither seemed very professional. I'm in the process of scheduling surgery with a doctor who comes highly recommended. He too recommends doing one foot at a time, though he has performed surgery on both feet in the past. He put me in touch with a former patient who had both done at once. She was highly satisfied with the results, and like me, is an active woman in her twenties who had ACL surgery a few years ago--she said the ACL recovery was much tougher. I would much prefer to get both done at once, but I would be grateful for any details on how this affects recovery time, associated risks, etc. Also, as the surgery would be performed out of state, I need to determine how soon after surgery I can fly back. Any help that the doctors and patients on this site could provide would be most appreciated. Thanks. |
