I remember wonderful times at Richmond Ice rink... I learnt to skate there, and loved it... My thoughts go back to hearing Ron Linton play the organ. This developed my love for the organ too... It was a lovely old place, which gave great joy to millions, and we musn't forget that...
The olympics in 2012 will need a good ice rink to show the rest of the world how magic we are... And to realise that Richmond once had the largest indoor ice surface in the world... Anyway... I'd love to know about Ron Linton...
I still remember him saying 'Clear the ice! Clear the ice!' and then playing the national anthem at the end of the sessions, and everyone skating as fast as they could, the full length of the rink, from the organ end of the rink, down to do snowplough stops at the unsuspecting watchers by the restaurant! Happy days! We all got wet!
best regards,
organman
