I need some help on this one,I am trying to trace a Charles Walmer Harcourt Ascroft who was born in 1894 the son of Otto Simon Henry Harcourt of Ankerwycke born 1849 son of George Simon Harcourt of Ankerwycke.
Living in South Africa Charles Walmer Harcourt Ascroft married in 1912 Cecil Violet Enid Greville born 1896,youngest daughter of Brooke Southwell Greville (Kings Messenger) son of Major Southwell Greville Lord Lieutenant of Westmeath b 1822 younger brother to Fulke 1st Baron Greville born 1821.
Aged just 17 he inherited shares in one of Africas largest Gold Mines and it has been indicated he returned with his young wife back to England in 1913.
Cecil Violet Enid Ascroft (formerly Greville) gave birth to a young boy called Peter Greville Algernon Ascroft (later presumed the name Peter Charles Algernon Fulke Greville)in June 1916 at Longfield,Wraysbury the property of Captain Guy Elliot Harcourt of Ankerwycke,Lord of the Manor of Wraysbury and Cousin to Charles Walmer Harcourt Ascroft.
Cecil Violet Enid(Greville)Ascroft married secondly Air Vice Marshall Edward Irvine Bussell CBE in 1927.
Her eldest son was Peter Charles Algernon Fulke Greville born 1916 (formerly Ascroft) married in 1950 and had a son Christopher Brooke Fulke Greville born 1951 now known officialy as Lord Fulke-Greville of Alcester.
I need to confirm if Charles Walmer (Harcourt)Ascroft was ever in the UK between 1913 to present because he suddenly dissapeared and no trace of him has ever been found to this day.
What ever happened to his inheritance and Estates in Africa and England remain a mystery,could the mystery be solved now or has certain parties with secrets to hide remain undetected.
The Blaauwbank Gold mine concerned became Africas most profitable mining company with interests in Africas Tobacco Empire especially enlarging from 1913.
Seems to run in the family as Lord Lucan was related to these noble family branches of the Grevilles and Harcourts. |
