Tony Arbour's new invitation for neighbours to snitch and sneak on each each (The confidential phoneline) has more in common with pre-War Europe than is at first realised. The German population didn't have to be browbeaten by rhetoric and fear, in actual fact all The Authorites had to do was was set up information gathering offices in towns and villages where neighbours could get their own back on each other, anonymously. Clerks opened files prior to 'Inspectors' visiting the 'named' out of the blue. So similar to Tony's snitch and sneak (SS) it makes me shudder. Will it work to weed out fraudulant benefit claimants? Like a dose of salts I predict. If governments provide the mechanisms the public will do this rest. Our liberty is that fragile. |
