BBC Radio 4 'Today' programme today told of The Liberal Democrats at Lambeth making promises over the rebuilding of Streatham Ice Rink and swimming pool. The reporter had Richard Caborn, The Sports Minister and Duncan Goodhew being interviewed as well as a local councillor. The general consensus was that there was no money and Tesco was unlikely to finance it all (because they have bought the existing rink for a superstore) This all sounded grim deja vu , a repeat of what happened in Richmond in 1989. Another reason given was internal corruption within the Lib Dem led Council ( If you dissagree with me publishing this all I'm doing is a direct quote from the BBC). All the interviewees said 'they wanted more sports facilities' but in real life most of the ice rinks in London have gone and swimming pools are going. Our campaign to get Richmond Ice Rink back continues. |
