Under Letters. Entitled Watchdog. I respond to some critical opinions here but invite Watchdoggers to look at this excellent local newspaper. Watchdog is vital, valid and every town should have one. Someone has to run it and take the legal flack for overenthusiastic posters. Watchdog should remain open and unedited except for removal of the lewd of patently libellous. But short of this everything goes. Its like a conversation in a saloon bar where the real truth comes out. Richmond has suffered having its news served up on a sugered spoon via The Richmond and Twickenham Times, and when I say suffered I mean SUFFERED AND DAMAGED. Real issues sunk without trace because they might offend The Council. Other issues altered so as not to offend. Result Corruption, injustice, exploitation, a feeling of helplessness and a message to those in power they may do what they want, because there has been nothing to stop them. This state of affairs was the very reason Watchdog was set up to stop. Its a bit of a switchback ride and loose cannon, but so what! Those in the firing line must watch out. Other media watch with envy and pick up breaking news which would otherwise remain hidden - just where the crooks want it to be.
