As a member of the Peace Party or the Appeasement Party as the Daily Telegraph called the Liberal Democrats, Cllr Mann's comments are hardly surprising.

Like his leader Mr Kennedy, Cllr Mann lacks an understanding of the real world. If we had accepted the Pacifists view in the thirties where would we be today?

All reasonable people stand “shoulder to shoulder” with their friends in time of adversity.

Both major political parties support the action of the US President and the American people. Terrorism has to be defeated or our civilised life will cease to exists in this country and the whole of the Western World.

Pacifists and cowards will be ignored by all reasonable people.

What is so alarming is that the national leader of a [minor] political party can come up with such views and not be roundly condemned by the Government and all the media.

I speak as someone who has unlimited respect for his country which gave security and protection to my parents as refugees from Nazi Germany.

We will remember – Next May.
