A line I've seen quoted a number of times from councillors anfd officials, and Cllr Serge Lourie last week in the R&T Times, is that they must take into account 'the majority, not just the vocal minority'. Can he therefore explain part of the reasoning for not flying the American flag over York House on 27th November to "Not cause offence to some of our Muslim residents". Where does the majority view come into the decision? Why the exception when Kingston and Hounslow (with a far higher muslim population) have agreed to fly their flag? Another example of being totally out of touch?
The vicar of St Andrew's Church request for war veterans not to bear standards at the rememberance day service is "Out of respect for the German protestant members of his congregation." Many issues around that one but let's stick with, how many of them are there, and should the respect not be coming from the other way on this?
It seems to me that when it suits, the establishment and politicians claim they are acting for the 'majority' and at other times, selectively, they will take more note of the 'minority'. Another example of sham democracy, skewed principles and hyprocrisy. |
