I have just examined an article to be seen on
http://www.twickenham-online.co.uk/
- Twickenham Journal, - Peoples Park Gains Ground.
This, entitled "Call to retain Public Ownership", reports the "people's" public meeting in Twickenham but fails to mention Mr. Berend's speech, hence the issue of the freehold here discussed.
If and when the matter is clear beyond dispute, please let us know. It is alarming to behold the habitual confusion and misapprehension that surrounds these multi million pound issues.
I mentioned the point in a letter about retaining freeholds, dated 4th July. Cllr. Whitall replied to me directly. His message contained the following:
"The leases to the commercial arm of the development can not be bought up by the tenants. Also, it is only the LibDems who would actually put this right into the legislation - Labour will not."
He also ventured a reply (11th July) to the Editor. This regurgitated advice as to the method of valuation. It also purported that the Council's housing stock was not sold!
