First of all, it is difficult to imagine that a serious injury could not have been treated in a timely manner even though it occurred during the Christmas season. Secondly, as difficult as it is to specifically assess a common disease problem over the Internet and without a first-hand examination, attempting to do that with the results of a traumatic incident which is generally, to one degree or another, a one-of-a-kind event is many times more difficult. What you need now, if you haven't yet gotten it, is an evaluation by a qualified specialist. I do not know the degree of expertise in matters such as this of the personnel in a clinic apparently devoted to fractures, but certainly you need to be in experienced hands, and should have been all the while. Ice and compression, along with rest and elevation are certainly tenets of ankle sprain care in the very early going, but may be of lesser to questionable value two months post-event. Inadequately treated sprains of the ankle can indeed doom the individual to permanent disability, and whether or not the damage done by lack of adequate and timely treatment can be reversed at this juncture is anyone's guess. You need some doctors with real expertise in the matter at this time, rather than one who tells you to just suck it up. If there is a medical teaching facility in your area, I would suggest you see a specialist there. Until then, I would generally suggest doing what one can to refrain from continuing to traumatize the area.
