I've used Orthosorb pins for certain types of bunion procedures and have not had any problems post-operatively.
There is very small chance that you could develop a sterile abscess; that is basically your body reacting to the substance Orthosorb is made from, but other than that the risks are basically the same as those with a comparable metal fixation (such as a metal k-wire).
My question in regard to use of Orthosorb would be "what type of procedure" would it be used in. I think there are definite procedures that it is good for (ie reveredin type procedures)
and many procedures in which a different type of fixation would be better. Of course, that is just my opinion, and each surgeon has his/her own preference. |
