A patient is never out of line in seeking a second opinion if he/she believes that the condition for which he/she is being treated may be beyond the scope of the doctor or if the answers she is getting from that doctor do not satisfy her. And aside from ego, I would think that any doctor would welcome such help, as your doctor wants your prompt and uneventful recovery as much as do you.
