My age is 68 and I am retired. Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 years ago and I am controlling it with diet. My doctor tells me my blood work is fine. My perscriptions include 1. Lotrel 5-10, Terazosin 5 mg., and Atenolol 100 mg. for blood pressure. Within the past 3 weeks I have gone for acupuncture (2 session for the neuropathy) done by a MD and he has perscribed Cymbalta, which I have now taken for 6 days. Too early to tell if it is going to work. Nuerologist suggest that I have periphal nueropathy. SECOND METARSAL Second toe (long toe) feels like I am walking on a rock in my shoe. I have purchased expensive inserts and a pair of SAS shoes which has helped some. Still gets very sore if I stay on my feet any length of time, one hour or more. The minute I get off my feet, the soreness seems to go away until I get back on my feet again, therefore I would say it is a weigh- bearing problem. I don't see any evidence of redness or swelling. I have had both of these problems for about 2 years, with the metetarsal coming first. Although I have not been able to walk for the past year, I walked an average of 50 to 60 miles a week for exercise for approximately 25 years. The nueropathy starts with a tingling sensation, then burning and lastly soreness until I get off my feet. I'm in hopes the Cymbalta will help than problem. Accupuncture did not seem to help. I guess I am wondering if surgery is an option for my metatarsal problem in spite of the fact that most articles I read do not recommend it. Thanks JRB |
