Hello everyone!
I am a nurse from UK. I have recently been medically discharged from The Royal Navy because I have Bilateral Chronic Anterior Compartment Syndroma and undiagnosed calf pain.
I used to be very fit and run every day. But due to my problem I was advised not to run and rest. 6 years later, I am still in pain and still unable to run and I have put on ALOT of weight! (Which I know doesn't help)I am managing to swim 3 times a week and I have a dog which I walk twice a day.
I get alot of cramps in my calves and they feel tight all the time. (The cramps mainly come on during the night when I am asleep!)The pains in the front of my legs only really comes on after excercise (walking) and I get numbness of my little toes in both feet after about 10 mintues. As the years have gone on I have found I can walk less far before my feet go numb or the pain comes on.
I talked to a civilian GP who wants me to have a fasciotomy. Will it work after 6 years of inflammation? Do you think there will be too much damage? Also this will not stop the calf cramping up to which no one has offered me an explanation. I also have a biomechanical problem with my feet in that I have dropped arches casued by trauma (Military life for you running and jumping off high walls!)I have been given insoles but can't tolerate them in my shoes as my feet "burn" when wearing them.
So really what I am asking for are peoples opinion on what this problem is and should I go under the knife after so long!
hope I have made sense!
