I have had surgery twice on my great right toe. The first was because my foot swelled up over night - no previous pain - diagnosed with having problems with the sesmoid bone in my great right toe - surgery needed to be done. I had the surgery and after the doctor "got in there" it turned out the I needed the sesmoid bone removed, the condiles (spelling) were shaved back, and a cyst was removed. The doctor ended up putting in a metal tie. I had an allergic reaction to the internal stitches and ended up with severe scarring of the incision area. After a year and a half of cortisone shots and Naproxen my podiatrist did an ultasound. I had another cyst and we went back in for more surgery. While in there in filed the condiles again, removed the metal tie, and the cyst. This time no internal stitches and no scarring. Now, less than a year my toe hurts again! I am having a hard time making myself go and call for another appointment, but I know that I need to. Side note: I have a bunion and hammertoe on my left foot. My podiatrist took a base line xray and found that I also have three cysts on that foot and that he predicted I would need surgery within the next three years, but he hesitates to rush it because of all of my problems. Ok - the question I have now - is there anything that can be done besides surgery to help shrink the cysts? I have never worn high heals, actually love sneakers, and walking.
