I took a fall on 6/15, twisting and then landing (sittinging) on top of my right foot. The top of it swelled and turned blue immediately. I went in to the ER where the Dr. said it surely was broken, but after doing x-rays, said it was only a contusion. He put me in a cam walker for 5-10 days and told me to walk with it. It has now been 9 days. I can not put any pressure on it, even with the wlking boot on, and it continues to swell, throb, and look incredibly bruised. the swelling and bruising are from the mid foot up to the toes, with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th toes bruised and swollen as well and not being able to move.
My question is this. The ER doc told me 10 days. Is the contusion a misdiagnosis? Should I go in to the ER again or see my regular doctor for more x-rays or an MRI to see what is going on? As I said, I cannot even walk on it without incredible pain (and I has a very high pain threshold), and I cannot even sleep at night due to all of the throbbing and sometimes painful burning sensations in my foot.
I keep it elevated as much as possible, as well as ice it several times per day.
Any suggestions on what my next steps should be?
Thanks so much for any advice you can give.
