 Subject: hammer toe quest. just how important is that joint

Within the coming month I will be having surgery on my bunion and on two hammer toes. I'm hoping that someone can offer me hammer toe advice on the pros and cons of arthroplasty with fixation- having a pin or staple put in (ultimately terminating any use of that particular joint in that toe) vs. arthroplasty alone- cutting the tendons and toe capsules (retaining the joint). Im interested in relative healing time and future problems that may ensue. I am only 25. Thanks.
