I had R and L bunionectomy surgery with permanant surgical pins placed in the first metatarsal of both feet aprox 6 months ago. All seemed well and I was thrilled with the results until about 3 weeks ago. I first noticed a small "protrusion" on both feet in aprox the same spot. Both are about 2 cm medial to my incision. The were very hard and sharp but had no real pain associated with them. That has changed drastically in the last week. If I'm on my feet for more than 20 minutes I'm in agony. It seems logical to me that it's possible for he ends of the pins to have worked their way out. I had R and L 4 weeks apart and I can tell that the first one is considerably more pronounced than the second one, although it is on it's way. Any thoughts? Anyone ever had this or heard of it? I was under the impression that the pins were something that supposed to stay put, but now I'm wondering if I'll have to have them removed.
