My apologies up front for a long post, I'll try to be as brief as possible. Went to a DPM last August as I had a small ossicle on the EHL tendon of my right foot. Had a bunionectomy and ossicle excision in September. During recovery I ended up with a partial tear of the EHL tendon and DPM repaired it with a cadaver graft in November.
In short, great toe is malaligned and has almost zero ROM, I am unable to walk any distance at all without pain. DPM told me that he did not know what else to do for me, so I consulted an orthopedic surgeon. He referred me to another DPM, who is advising arthrodesis as the only option.
My question is whether there are any other alternatives, I really don't want to have a third surgery and I'm not sure I'll be happy with the arthrodesis. It seems to me that it will cause a limited gait as push off will be affected, as well as the ability to squat or reach up.
Any opinions or advice?? |
