I had external pin fixation for a great toe.
This involved six external pins for the one great toe.
They were really long large screws. These were left in place for six weeks.
At the same time, I had toe 2 and toe 3 corrections with bone cuts.
These were internal pins with external pins. The external pins were in for two weeks. They were long but would be what one would describe as pins. Thin but long. My excellent POD removed the external pins as described two weeks after they were placed. The internal pins were in for six weeks.
I had IV sedation for the great toe external pin removal.Remember, these were large, long screws.
Because, another person with the same experience told me that is was very painful to have them removed.
the thin external pins in toe 2 and toe 3 were removed by the POD in his office with nothing not even a local anesthesia. I did not have any pain with the removal just bleeding.
Hopefully, this is clear.
If your pins are long and very thin like a pin, there will be no pain with an office removel.
If the pins are like long screws, and I mean they have ridges in them like a screw then think of a brief IV sedation............... |
