Christina . . When you ask an individual patient as to what they thought of their surgery, you can only get an answer based on a solitary experience, which might have been either good or not so good. Although you might think that this will constructively help you with your own personal decision, there is no reason to believe that it really will. As with all surgeries and all medical procedures, there are successes, partial successes, results which don't quite meet expectations and frank failures, as well as complications which may even make having had the surgery worse than not having had it at all. Which answer you receive from one or even several people really has no bearing on what your experience will be. Bunion surgeries are very common, and as they are totally elective, if the majority did not achieve the reasonable expectations of the patient with no more than moderate aggravation, then not so many would be done. The best way that I can recommend to make a decision regarding such surgery is first to choose a well-qualified doctor to perform it, and even other qualified doctors for second opinions if you feel the least bit uncomfortable with the decisions and predictions of the first doctor. Then ask your questions of the doctor you choose and have confidence in, as only he/she knows your situation and what is to be done. To that end, I have previously posted the following.
