In April of 2003, I broke my foot snowboarding. My foot became wedged half-way in and out of my binding after coming off of a jump. The subsequent landing and twisting broke the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsals. The 2nd and 3rd were internally fixated with wires. I did some pt but not a whole lot. I was overseas at the time and there was a bit of a language barrier which put me at odds at asking all the right questions. When I got back stateside, my foot was still sore, but eventually seemed to calm down. But a few weeks ago, I realized it was still not 100%. First there was the 10 mile hike. On about mile 7, everytime we stopped, my foot started to throb and ache. It was fine as long as we were moving. The first time it happened, I was almost convinced that something was seriously wrong. But moving again resolved that it was just the old injury creeping up on me again. Once we stopped for good, I got into my Birkenstocks and though sore that night, everything was fine the next day. I do have store-bought orthotics (Superfeet) in my boots... Then a few weeks ago, right along with one of the hurricanes, my foot started to really ache. My arch also seemed to painfully pop sometimes when walking. It does it less frequently currently, but still happens about once a day. If I run around enough (I play soccer as well) the area behind my ankle swells up a little and my ankle rolls over really easily. Is there any reason why this should happen? Have I done some crazy damage to some kind of ligament or am I getting arthritis? Is there anything to stop this from happening and not have any more problems?
Thanks,
Carrie
