Whether or not they are forthright in admitting it, many, if not most of the folks who come to sites such as this are looking for a means to effectively rid themselves of a foot problem, with or without an actual diagnosis. An accurate diagnosis is generally the basis and starting point on which an effective treatment regimen might be based. As a doctor, I do not deal with litanies of guesses, where the questioner can then pick and choose what he/she likes best, especially where there is insufficient information on which to base those guesses. If I cannot supply meaningful information, which is likely accurate and germane to the situation, I believe that a response indicating how that information might best be obtained is far preferable. The alternative you suggest, as I have previously pointed out, may well be counter-productive and offer costly and time-wasting wild goose chases. If one wishes off-the-cuff suggestions, replete with meaningless maybe "it's this's and maybe it's that's." there are other sites where the responding "professionals" are more interesting in "hearing" themselves talk and "sounding" like doctors than in giving responsible answers . . and some questioners actually prefer that. But, in my view, sites such as this should be used to refine and complement one's knowledge of already diagnoses problems and their treatments. and not to substitute for one's actually consulting of a doctor in his/her office. But in the end, it is I, and not you or the questioner, who defines the responses which I will offer, and I offer what I believe to be most appropriate and responsible. |
