DISCLAIMER:
THE FOLLOWING IS OFFERED AS GENERAL INFORMATION ONLY, AND MAY NOT BE APPLICABLE TO THE SPECIFIC QUESTIONER'S PROBLEM. IT IS NOT BASED ON ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OR EXAMINATION OF THE QUESTIONER AND SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON AS DEFINITIVE MEDICAL OPINION. ONLY THROUGH HANDS ON PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH PATIENTS CAN ACCURATE MEDICAL ADVICE BE GIVEN. NO DOCTOR/PATIENT RELATIONSHIP IS CREATED OR ESTABLISHED OR MAY BE INFERRED. THE QUESTIONER SHOULD CONTACT HIS OR HER OWN DOCTOR BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS FORTHCOMING HEREIN.

Now, if I considered you an inconvenience, do you would think I would be spending my time trying repeatedly to give you advice which I firmly believe is in your best interests. Do you think I get PAID for this??

But REALLY . . . Why am I just now hearing from you that you "cut on" this callus. My very first reply to you clearly implied that I believed you had no break in the skin, and your response, until now, hadn't indicated otherwise.

And about the cost . . . Just what do you think the cost would be (and not just in money) if your doctor's optimism proves misplaced? After all . . apparently, all he knows about your condition is that which you told his nurse.

But if you honestly believed that your gatekeeper physician, if faced with an ongoing infection in your foot would not administer at least some critical first-line care before referring you to podiatry, where I suppose you could get in line for another appointment . . well, I just don't know what to say.

The fact is, though, that if you were truly comfortable with your doctor's over-the-phone opinion that you can safely wait, you would never have posted in this forum in the first place . . would you? Or were you just looking for a "ditto?" Patients MUST take both an active part in and their share of responsibility for treatment of problems .. . . especially ones which may time sensitive and perhaps of far more consequence to them than to their doctor.

Look . . It's no skin off my nose. Maybe he's right and everything will be fine, but if you're looking for medical advice rather than wishful thinking . . You GOT it! . . . And instead of thanking me for offering you the concern which all too few doctors give, and about the lack of which many patients bitterly complain . . you give me grief. Generally, when I get grief, I also get paid.
